Decision Paralysis and the Paradox of Choice

As psychologist Barry Schwartz explains in his book The Paradox of Choice, people don’t like having to make too many decisions. In western civilizations we are brought up to believe that freedom is a core value, but surprisingly too much freedom can apparently be overwhelming. Apparently what we really want is bounded freedom, where we get to choose from a smaller menu of options. A few examples of daily pedestrian decisions are:

● Clothing - what to wear

● Breakfast - what to eat

● Lunch - what to eat, who to eat with (or alone)

● Dinner - what to eat, who to eat with (or alone)
